Creating vector cliparts in 3D is now easier than ever with most vector software! Simple text effects can be done in seconds using simple tools! You can also create 3D effects on objects or cartoon characters that you have created previously! A nice way to add a touch of realism to your drawing!
However, since 3D graphics were overused in the 90s (especially text), this technique can also give an amateur look to a website if it's not done properly! Be careful!
Note: This tutorial was made using Xara application. Some effects might not be available in your software.
In this first example, using the text in #1 as a template, you can see three different 3D effects done in a couple of seconds using my vector software. Notice how the perspective was used in #4 compared to #3. Simple, but very cool and effective!
In this second image, notice that only the position of the lights were changed (the template is still the same. A 3D text using a light blue color). Playing with lights can be tricky if you don't know how to make your text stand out from the background!
These 3D vector cliparts are also similar except that I have played with the three angles of each object. No lights were moved or changed here! Notice that #2 and #3 are not as visually interesting as the two other images. In these cases, playing with the lights would've been a good idea!
Of course, you can also play with the depth of your letters! Image #3 is definitely too deep and distracting!
Finally, you also have the possibility the play with the outline of your text! Once again, do this with caution. Too much noise isn't really good for readability! Like any other tool, using 3D with moderation will always create nicer images than going nuts with it! Have fun!
