Turkey Cartoon (Advance Vector Tutorial)

Even if it's not Thanksgiving yet, this amusing turkey cartoon can be a good subject for a drawing lesson! Very simple to draw and quite fun to color, this funny cartoon animal is easy to recognized with its round body and particular tail.

Remember that this tutorial is all about creating nice shadows and great vector effects on your illustration. It's better to own a vector software to complete this drawing lesson. Don't hesitate to create your own character to apply similar similar effects on it! Enjoy!

Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline.

On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.

Step 1

First, create the character using basic shapes and dark outlines. Once you are finished, apply plain colors to your drawing. The character might seem a little flat for now, but we will work on that in the next step.

Step 2

Select shapes one-by-one and apply a gradient effect on each of them. Notice that each shape is different. Some requires that shadows must be darker on the bottom while others are better with the top being darker.

Step 3

It's now time to work on the eyes. Create circles to form a dark patch around each eye. You can also create small circles on the eyes and the pupils to represent reflections.

Step 4

Once you are finished, you can work on the head by creating new shapes to illustrate reflections on the head (and below the head).

Step 5

Finally, add more shapes on the beak, below the head and below the beak. Use the gradient tool and a little bit of transparency to create these subtle shadows. Great! Your illustration should be done by now. Feel free to try again if you need to. :)
