Learn how to draw a hot sun vector illustration using this simple step-by-step drawing lesson! Using a vector application, you can create all sorts of cute cartoon character and objects filled with great effects quite easily. This tutorial is another good example how a simple drawing can become more interesting using only a few basic tips.
No need for complex shapes and time-consuming special effects. All you need to do is draw a circle, add a few gradient effects, a little bit of transparency and shadows and you are done!
First, create a background using a simple square. Fill this new shape with a dark orange/brown color. Once you are finished, add a circle in the middle and color this shape using a bright orange color.
Then, select the gradient tool and apply a small shadow effect on the circle. To do so, simply add a darker tone of orange on the bottom of the shape.
Once you are done, add another circle on top of the first one. This new shape must be colored in yellow and it should be slightly smaller than the original shape.
Now select the transparency tool and apply this effect on the bottom part of the new shape. As you can see, the bottom/left part of the yellow circle now blends with the original circle.
In this step, you must create two new shapes to create more reflections and shadows. Draw a small yellow circle on the top/right part of the illustration. Then, create a darker area on the bottom of the yellow circle. You can use this one has a reference to create your new shape so that both shapes are perfectly aligned.
Once again, use the transparency tool and hide the bottom part of the round (yellow) shape and the top part of the darker area on the bottom. Your sun vector illustration is now looking great, but we can still add a few details to make it even more appealing.
Create a long pointed triangle and duplicate it until you have 16 units. Each triangle must be colored in orange.
Select the transparency tool and hide the pointed part of each triangle.
Create one last circle and place it under all shapes on the illustration, but over the background. This new shape must be colored in yellow.
Finally, use the transparency tool again to hide the edge of the circle. You need to use the circular option of the transparency tool to come up with a similar effect. That's it! You now have a cool sun vector illustration filled with great colors and nice effects. More fun illustrations related to the same theme are available below.
