Squirrel Cartoon (Advance Vector Tutorial)

Enjoy a nice drawing tutorial featuring a cute squirrel cartoon! This agile and smart animal is now the topic of this advance drawing lesson that requires the use of a vector software to complete. All you need to do is reproduce the template available in the first step and use it to apply great colors and shadows.

Of course, this lesson will be easier if you already know how to use a vector application. Don't hesitate to purchase a vector software if you don't have one. Today's applications are easy to use and results are better than ever!

Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline.

On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.

Step 1

Let's start this tutorial by drawing the character itself. Once you are finished, apply plain colors on all parts of the cartoon character. Colors don't need to be accurate for now. Also, notice that the outlines were removed.

Step 2

Select all shapes and use the gradient tool to apply some basic shadows. Of course, you need to select each shape individually and apply the effect manually on each shape. It's impossible to do the whole character in one single operation.

Step 3

Create circles to be used on the eyes of the squirrel cartoon. Circles on the eyes and the pupils are used to create reflections while the ones behind the eyes are added to form dark patches. Other shadows can also be applied on the back legs and the front ones.

Step 4

Finally, you can add a subtle shadow below the head of the squirrel and create a lighter reflection of top of the tail. That's it! Your character is now ready to be displayed and don't hesitate to work on it over and over again until you are 100% satisfied!
