Snail Cartoon (Advance Vector Tutorial)



No need to hurry! Just like this snail cartoon, take your time to complete this cool drawing lesson and you will be rewarded with a great illustration that you will be proud of! This funny cartoon animal is rather easy to achieved if you follow all steps carefully.

Don't hesitate to start all over again if you are not happy with the result. Drawing is about practicing... and practicing again. Even professional artists are learning new things every day! The only way to get better is to draw as much as possible and surf the net for new tips and techniques.

Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline.

On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.

Step 1

First, create the snail using a few basic shapes and black outlines. Once you are done, add a few plain colors on the character.

Step 2

Next, select all shapes on the character (one-by-one) and use the gradient tool to add nice fill effects. The goal is to create nice shadows that will be enhanced by smaller ones later on.

Step 3

Create a small circle on the head and fill it with a bright tone of brown. Use transparency to hide the bottom of the shape. You can also create white circles to represent reflections on the eyes and the pupils.

Step 4

Once you are finished, create shapes above the head and below the mouth to give more depth to the head. These shadows must be subtle and transparent on one end.

Step 5

For the final step, add two small shadows below the eyes of the snail cartoon. Then, add another large circle near the mouth and color this one with a brown tone. Finally, work on the shell and add the patterns using light shadows. Nice! :)
