Don't be afraid of this shark cartoon! This one doesn't bite and it will be used only for this drawing tutorial! As you will see below, if you have to be afraid of something, then it should be on how to apply great shadows and reflections on your cartoon character.
So sit back, take your time to reproduce the shapes of the shark and once you are finished, open your vector application and enjoy this funny step-by-step drawing lesson. With a little patience and practice, you should be able to go through this entire tutorial with ease.
Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline.
On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.
Let's start drawing! First, draw the outlines of the shark using simple black lines. Once you are done, apply plain colors on your cartoon animal. As you can see, the part below the mouth should be lighter compare to the top.
Next, use the gradient fill on each and every shape of the character. Look at each part and make sure that you are applying the fills accordingly.
Time to add a few effects around the eye. Create three different shapes. One will be used to create reflection on the eye, the second shape must be used to create reflection on the pupil while the third shape can be used to create a large patch behind the eye. You can also create a large shadow and place it near the mouth and below the teeth.
Complete your work on the shark cartoon by adding three more shadows on the fins. You can use the transparency tool to hide some parts too. Nice work! More fun sharks can be found below. Have fun with these additional resources. :)
