If you want to put your hands on a slightly complex tutorial about a robot cartoon character, then you came to the right place! Indeed, the character might not be too tough to create, but the shadows and reflections are more present than the ones from previous drawing lessons from this part of How-to-draw-funny-cartoons.com.
Don't worry! The tutorial is still quite easy to achieve if you don't create something filled with hundreds of parts. Just take your digital pencil and start drawing your character now! :)
Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline.
On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.
First, you need to create and draw a simple robot using mostly circles and rectangles. In terms of drawing abilities, this one is relatively easy to illustrate. Once you are finished, you can use the fill tool to add plain colors on every part of the character. For now, you can use various tones of grey to make sure that every element is easy to read.
When you are ready to proceed, you can select the gradient tool to represent simple shadows. These shadows are easy to implement since the vector software basically does all the job for you. For shapes like the eyes and the head, you can use the circular fill.
Now don't be impressed by the multiple additions for this step. For shapes around the eyes, the mouth and the elements on the body, all you need to do is add a dark color and make the top part of each shape slightly transparent. For the other shapes on the head, use a tone of color that is darker than the one visible below each shape. Once again, use the transparency tool to hide the top (right) part of each shape.
Nice! The robot cartoon is almost done. To add even more realism to our illustration, create small shadows around all circular parts from the arms and hands. You can also add a little shadow on the body, just above each foot.
Finally, why not create another interesting effect on the lights. For each of the five lights, create a larger shape on top and make this one blurry and half-transparent. Of course, use a color similar to the one available under. Great job! Your robot cartoon should look quite fascinating now! :)
