Your goal in this tutorial is to create a cute rabbit drawing filled with simple shadows and white reflections! While creating this drawing lesson, I realized that sketching a cartoon rabbit is not that easy.
Depending on the chosen posture, the head and the ears are quite obvious to draw, but the body can be a little bit tricky to create. My only advice for this tutorial would be to study this animal carefully before moving on with the first step. :)
OK. Now that you have studied this animal carefully (you did it, right? ;) grab a pencil and draw the cartoon animal using curved lines. Our goal is to end up with the cutest rabbit possible.
Next, import your illustration in your drawing application. Create the outlines by following your template carefully. However, don't hesitate to make a few adjustments if necessary.
In my case, the ear on the right of the picture was supposed to be large and quite long. While drawing, I realized that a shorter ear (with a pointed end) would be more relevant.
Time to add some color! Even if my goal is to create a white rabbit, I still need to color my character in grey. Coloring the rabbit in white at this point will make the addition of reflection virtually impossible later.
Select the gradient tool and add some simple shadows as seen above. It might be hard to see a nice result at this point, but we are working on it!
I like to create additional subtle shadows to give more volume to my illustration. All areas like the ears, the nose and the teeth are affected.
These shadows are great, but clearly, these shapes are too dark. Select the transparency tool and partially hide the shapes created previously.
Now we need to add some reflection to make that rabbit more white and more ... 3D! Draw solid shapes colored in white and place these new elements on areas like shown above.
Once again, select the transparency tool to hide the bottom part of each shape. Now the character looks good, but it can be even better.
Change the color of the outlines and use a light grey tone. You can also change the color of the inside of the ears and the nose for a lighter tone of pink. Your rabbit drawing is now finished!
Have fun! :)
