Learn how to draw a "kiss cartoon" type of illustration using this easy step-by-step tutorial! In this simple version, you can see a cute girl and a handsome boy kissing each other under a small pink heart.
This illustration is quite basic, but some simple effects were added to create something even more visually interesting. I will show you how to come up with a similar result using a vector application.
First, you can use pointed lines to create the heart, the boy and the girl. The heart is made from one simple curved line. Both characters are done using several different lines. These lines are colored differently depending on the color of the shape these lines are covering.
Next, you can draw solid shapes filled with plain colors behind the outlines created in the previous step. You can also adjust the color of all outlines to make sure everything matches perfectly.
The boy is wearing a blue shirt and has brown hair. The girl is blonde and is wearing a bright pink shirt. The heart is not quite red, but slightly more pink.
In this step, you can use the gradient fill tool to add a second color on all shapes used to illustrate the characters. I did not use this tool on the heart. As you can see below, the hair of the girl are darker on the bottom and brighter on top. Repeat the same technique on all visible shapes.
In this fourth step, you can add some additional shapes to create even more shadows on the characters. These shapes were added below the eyebrows, on the hair, the necks and the shirts. You can also play with the opacity of these shapes to create a subtle result.
Finally, you can draw large white shapes on the top of the head and on the shirts of both lovers. These white shapes can also be slightly transparent and are used to illustrate highlights on the characters.
Nice work! This "kiss cartoon" illustration was easy to duplicate, right? Don't hesitate to create more variations. You can draw the characters inside the heart, draw the whole body of both lovers or come up with something new and completely different. Have fun! :)
