Learn how to draw grass using a simple technique that can be done with a vector software or even markers! Only six little steps are needed to end up with the perfect cartoon grass.
This lesson is quite easy, but you still need to find the right balance between dark grass and lighter grass to end up with something visually appealing. Below you can see the final illustration. Ready? Let's sketch! :)
If you are using a vector application, using layers is a good idea. On the first layer, create the sky and draw some dark lines as shown below. To create a better result, you can add a darker color on the bottom of the lines and a lighter one (but only slightly lighter) on top.
On a second layer, draw more lines using a lighter green color. These lines can also be darker on the bottom and lighter on top.
For this third step, repeat the same technique by adding more lines that are slightly lighter than the lines added in step number 2.
In this step, you can also add lines that are lighter. However, it's time to add more lines than previously. Indeed, lines added in the previous steps were only used to add depth and volume to the cartoon grass.
For this fifth step, add more lines using a bright green color. Don't add too many lines. Just a few are needed to create the desired effect.
Finally, add a few more lines that are really bright and visible. This technique might seem easy and quite obvious at first, but the real challenge is to add just enough lines in each step to make sure that the grass is not too bright or too dark.
In the same series, you can also learn how to draw plants and trees. You can learn how to draw a tree, a leaf or a cactus. Flowers like an orchid, a cherry blossom or a tulip are also available. Enjoy these fun drawing lessons! :)
