You can now learn how to draw an ambulance in just ten steps using the simple step-by-step drawing lesson found below. I will show you a few simple tips to illustrate this vehicle using mostly plain colors and basic lines. This vehicle is also displayed using a small perspective to make the whole image more dynamic.
Ambulances are important tools used to transport patients to the hospital. Without ambulances, it would be difficult to save lives in some situations. Let's see how we can create a cartoon version of this vehicle now. :)
Let's start by sketching a few lines to illustrate the front part of the cartoon ambulance. Simple start by drawing the hood using long curved lines. The windshield is also created using more similar lines. Finally, complete this step by adding the side window using a rectangular shape. As you can see below, all lines that were drawn are created with pointed ends.
The main section of the vehicle is mostly drawn using longer curved lines. Three vertical lines are drawn behind the window and three horizontal lines are added on top of the vehicle. The line added on top of the ambulance is used to create more depth. This line is also important to depict the perspective properly. Nice work! This lesson on how to draw an ambulance is definitely progressing well.
On the left side of the illustration, you can draw a long bumper using more simple lines as shown in the picture below. Then, straight lines are drawn to create the bottom of the ambulance. Two huge curved lines are also sketched to form the holes needed to create the wheels. Finally, draw the rear bumper on the right using more short curved lines.
In this step, it's time to create the wheels using perfect oval shapes. Why are we using oval shapes instead of circles? Simply because this drawing is created using perspective. That's why it's important NOT to use circles to create the wheels.
As you can see below, all four wheels are visible. The one located in front of the illustration are made from long curved lines. A small oval shape is added inside each wheel. The wheels located on the far side are partially visible. Also, all wheels are drawn using a second line to create more volume.
Once again, several small curved lines are required to form the emergency lights found on top of the vehicle. Since perspective is used, the right side of the object must include a little bit of depth. That's why the bottom part of the emergency lights is made of two separate lines. This effect will be easier to visualize once all colors will be added to the illustration.
In front of the cartoon ambulance, you can draw two headlights using large oval shapes. Next, smaller lights are added on the back part of the vehicle (mostly near the top). These lights are also made of oval shapes, but these new additions are smaller than the previous ones.
We are almost done learning how to draw an ambulance made from basic shapes. First, you can sketch grilles in front of the vehicle using pointed curved lines. A door handle is also sketched below the window. Simple vertical lines are used to separate the door from the rest of the vehicle. A stripe is drawn on the side and the word "Ambulance" is also written above the stripe.
Now that we are done drawing this fun vehicle, it's time to add some plain colors. The entire ambulance is filled with a light gray color. All lights are red. You can see on the right side of the emergency lights that the color used is darker. The stripes is also red. Both windows are colored in blue. The headlights can be yellow. The bumpers and the wheels are filled with a darker gray color.
If you want to go one step further, you can also add subtle shadows to the images using more simple shapes. As you can see below, several shadows were added to the vehicle (surrounded by a temporary blue outline). Simply use a darker color inside these new additions.
That's it! I hope you had fun learning how to draw an ambulance using all steps found above. Of course, you can try sketching more versions using various models, angles, colors or even textures. Ambulances can differ from one country to another, so it's time to experiment and draw new vehicles now!
If you need more help with this tutorial, you can take a look at the image below. This one contains all ten steps required to draw this cartoon ambulance quickly and easily. Just take your time and study all steps carefully.
Now that we are done with this lesson, you are invited to learn to draw more vehicles from the same series below. Some of these lessons are pretty basic while others are offering interesting challenges like the creation of highlights and complex shadows. Remember to practice on a daily basis and have fun with this tutorial. :)
