Learning how to draw a truck is not a difficult task. However, learn how to draw a more realistic cartoon truck can be more challenging! In this simple step-by-step drawing lesson, I will show you how to create a truck using simple circles and rectangles. Then, you will have the opportunity to fill in this illustration with great digital effects using a vector application. Let's start this tutorial now! :)
First, let's draw the truck using simple shapes as shown below. As you can see, this is a very simple cartoon truck. There are no useless details or patterns. Once you are finished with this part of the tutorial, you can proceed with the next step.
It's now time to add colors to the illustration. Once colors are added, you can remove most outlines. The only lines that are still visible are the ones around the windows and below these windows. Most of the truck is filled with grey colors.
Using the gradient fill tool, you can now add a second color on all shapes to create more depth and more volume on the vehicle. All shapes can be darker on the bottom and brighter on top. Let's move on to the fourth step now! :)
In this simple step, additional elements are added on the windows, the wheels and rectangular shapes on the bottom of the truck. The new shapes must be darker and are used to illustrate strong shadows. Make sure these new elements are partially hidden to end up with something a little bit more subtle.
Next, you can once again add new shapes, but this time these new elements must be colored in white. The goal is to create highlights and give even more depth to the windows and the wheels. Once again, make sure these shapes are partially transparent.
Just like we did in the previous step, you can also add more white shapes on the truck as shown in the illustration below.
Nice work! This adorable cartoon truck is now completed. I like to create these illustrations without using outlines, but feel free to add outlines if you prefer working with them. Enjoy this great truck and it's now time to draw your own version! Have fun! :)
