Before learning how to draw a swan: some fun facts before starting sketching!
So you want to know how to draw a cartoon swan? First, let's take a good look at this splendid animal by studying the image on your left. Swans have a long thin beak (1) and a very long neck (2). They also have big wings (3) and a small tail (5). Their feet are thin and black (6). The body of the swan looks like a long cylindar (4).
Looking at our swan through his shapes, the neck and the wings are without a doubt the two most particular parts of this cute bird. Notice how the swan uses his neck and his tail to keep is balance. The swan looks like a duck that has been stretch to a certain extend! Like the eagle, only the head is made of a circular shape.
Let's draw a cartoon swan by taking advantage of the most recognizable aspect of his body: the neck! Start your work by drawing a circle for the head. Continue by drawing an "S" to represent the neck.
Sketch the body using an oval. Draw the outline of the swan and then erase those basic shapes you've just drawn. Add the beak, the eye and some lines to form the wing.
Once again, you can go for a cartoon style bird (2) (5) or something more traditional (1) (3). You can also challenge yourself and try to sketch your swan using only one line (6)! Use your imagination and have fun!
