Learning how to draw a mop that looks really cool can be done using only a few basic lines and shapes. In this lesson, I will show you a few simple tips to create a fun drawing like the one located above. You will see that creating basic shadows and textures can be done in just a few simple steps.
Ready? Let's proceed with the first step now ...
First, let's work on the handle of the object. You can start by drawing a long rectangular shape to form this part of the subject. Notice how the edges are slightly rounder. On the bottom of the handle, two small pieces of plastics are used to create the junction with the head.
The head of the cartoon mop is made of several stripes of textiles. You can draw a few of them in this step. Notice how the stripe on the left is different from the three others. Indeed, the shape and the orientation of this stripe is slightly different. Our goal is to create a dynamic head, so it's important to create some movement in this part of the object.
Now that we have created a few stripes, it's time to add more textiles to this object using more long curved lines. In this step, the new shapes are mostly created in the middle of the head.
All stripes created here are similar to the three original stripes (that were on the right side of the image) created in the previous step. You can use the same orientation and the same curved lines to illustrate these new elements.
On the left side of the object, you can draw a second stripe that is oriented differently. In the middle of the head, one simple line is also missing. Finally, you can draw one last piece of textile on the right as shown in the illustration below. Nice work! This lesson on how to draw a mop is progressing nicely.
All stripes of textiles can be filled with a simple texture made from several short lines. You can see in the illustration below that these lines are mostly drawn on the right side of the stripes. Once you are done sketching these textures, you can proceed with the next step.
This basic object is filled with simple plain colors. The handle can be red, the middle section is colored in blue while the stripes are mostly beige and brown. Using both colors inside the head can help create some depth only by using a few basic colors.
One last thing we can do to create more volume is to draw simple shadows on the cartoon mop. These new shapes must be slightly darker and are concentrated in the middle part of the drawing. You can see these new additions below (surrounded by a thick pink outline).
That's it for this tutorial on how to draw a mop that looks appealing in just a few basic shapes. Below, you can see the final illustration once all parts of the object are created. Don't hesitate to sketch more versions using various fabrics, colors and perspectives. You could also add a bucket or draw some water to make this image more realistic.
If you need more help drawing this amazing object, then you can take a look at the image below. This one consists of all steps required to draw this cartoon mop properly. Just study this picture carefully if you need more assistance with this tutorial.
Now that we are done with this lesson, you are invited to try more fun objects from this site. Most of this tutorials can be done within minutes so drawing a whole house filled with fun objects won't be a secret for you anymore. Remember to practice on a daily basis and have fun drawing! ;)
