If you want to learn how to draw a frog using a simpler version of the animal, then this tutorial is definitely for you. It's a good place to start if you want to try something easy that can be done in just minutes. In this lesson, you will have the opportunity to create a cartoon frog mostly made from rectangles and squares.
Of course, it's certainly not the most realistic version of this animal that we can draw, but it's an accessible one. Once you are comfortable with this cartoon character, more cool frogs from this site are available at the bottom of this tutorial. Ready? Let's start creating this cool animal now ...
I usually create a template from basic shapes before drawing my characters, but since this version is already made from rectangles and squares we can skip this step. First, draw a large rectangle to form the body. This shape can be large and placed vertically as shown below.
Next, draw a simple patch on the chest of the character using another small rectangle. Leave some room above this new shape so that we can draw the facial features later in this tutorial. Great work! This lesson on how to draw a frog is progressing nicely.
It's now time to add some legs to our adorable subject. On both sides of the body, draw two large rectangles that will be used to illustrate the back legs. These new additions are not quite aligned with the bottom of the body.
Draw two more rectangles to represent the front legs. These shapes are next to each other and smaller than the back legs created earlier in this step. You can see the current version of the cartoon frog below.
Below all four legs, you can draw small curved lines. For each foot, three tiny lines were added.
We are now working on the most important aspect of any cartoon character : the face. Start this step by drawing two large circles to form the eyes. The nose is made from smaller dots. For the mouth, a long broken line is used.
A cartoon illustration cannot be visually appealing without the addition of cool colors. For this character, gradients were used to create more depth and volume. Of course, the cartoon frog is mostly colored in green. A little bit of red is added on the bottom of the feet. For the patch, a beige color is used.
Nice work! I hope you had fun learning how to draw a frog using only basic shapes. If you need more assistance, then you can use the image below.
Excellent! Now that you have completed this tutorial, you are invited to sketch and draw more adorable cartoon frogs from this site below. Enjoy these additional resources and remember to practice as often as possible. :)
