In this lesson, I will show you how to draw a bucket using mostly a few basic shapes and some simple digital effects. For this particular object, draw this one should not be difficult. However, adding realistic effects might be more challenging. Of course, our goal is to end up with a cute cartoon bucket, so the level of realism doesn't need to be very high. Ready? Let's start with the first step now ...
First, let's draw the silhouette of the object using mostly basic shapes. On top, you can draw a large oval shape to create the opening. Another large curved line is added just below the original shape. The body of the bucket is made from a rectangle shape that must be narrower near the bottom.
On top of the cartoon bucket, sketch a handle using mostly curved lines. Another oval shape is create on top of the object to complete this step. We are already done! Of course, a colorful illustration with fun effects is much better. Let's see how we can accomplish that. :)
It's time to add some colors inside this picture. For this lesson, the green color was the lucky winner. As you can see below, adding gradients can help create more volume inside the drawing. For example, the left side of the object is definitely darker than the top.
To help us create more depth inside the illustration, let's draw some shadows. These new shapes must be filled with a dark green color. It's also important to make sure that all new elements are partially transparent. Our goal is to create subtle shadows.
In this image found below, you can see all new additions surrounded by a blue outline. This is a pretty simple object, so you don't need to draw tons of shadows to create something convincing. Keeping it simple is the way to go.
Now that darker shapes were added, we can also work with brighter ones to create even more volume. For this step, all new additions are colored in white. Just like we did with shadows, you also need to play with the opacity of highlights to create the desired effect.
Since all steps are completed, you should end up with a cute and slightly realistic cartoon bucket. Of course, you can draw more versions using various shapes, textures and colors. If you can use a vector application to create all basic shapes, then drawing more buckets will be easier.
Now that this lesson on how to draw a bucket is finished, you are invited to try more appealing objects from the same series here. Enjoy! :)
