How to Draw A Bear using basic squares and rectangles

Learning how to draw a bear made from squares and rectangles might seem like a surprising alternative. Since these shapes are relatively easy to draw, then sketching a bear can be easier using this technique. Sure, an animal made from curved lines and circles will look better, but it can be a good practice to try something different.

To create a recognizable animal, we need to make sure that a few features are done properly. First, bears are gifted with a large nose. Ears are usually small and a patch is visible around the mouth. Another simple patch can also be added on the chest. Finally, make sure to draw large paws using large rectangles.

Ready? Let's start with the first step now ...

How To Draw A Bear Using Basic Squares And Rectangles

Adding a simple shape to start this tutorial

First, you can draw a large rectangular shape that will be used to form the head and the body of the cartoon bear. This rectangle must be vertical. It's also important to make sure that the shape is wide enough so that we can add the face of the character later in this lesson.

Next, draw the back legs using two more rectangles. These new additions must be placed on both sides of the animal. They must also be aligned with the bottom of the body. Once you are done, you can draw a large patch on the chest of the subject using another large rectangle.

drawing more body parts using more rectangles

In front of the character, draw two additional rectangles below the body to represent the front legs. These new shapes must be slightly lower compared to the body and the back legs. On top of the character, sketch two small rectangles to create the ears. Nice work! This lesson on how to draw a bear is almost completed!

working inside the head of the cartoon bear

Inside the head, you can draw a small rectangle to illustrate the patch located around the mouth of the character. Once you are done, you can sketch a large triangle inside this new shape to form the nose.

Several short lines are also drawn inside all four legs to create the paws. These lines are large near the bottom, but sharp near the top. Great! This bear looks great!
