Learn how to draw a complex grape clipart filled with cool digital effects like shadows and reflections in this advanced drawing lesson. I will show you how to use a digital application to create a realistic cartoon illustration that looks delicious and appealing. This lesson is not about drawing complex shapes (most elements are pretty easy to duplicate), but rather adding the perfect effects to create depth and volume.
First, we need to create the basic shapes of the illustration using a few lines and a lot of oval shapes. The stem and the leaves are made from a variety of broken lines. Colors are not accurate for now, but they are use to give us an idea of how the image should look like.
Inside the stem, you can draw a few dark lines to create texture. Then, gradient fills are added on all shapes of the picture. In all cases, you must create a dark area and a brighter one. For example, the tip of each leaf is much brighter than the inside part of the element.
You can see on the left below all new shapes added to the illustration. On the right, you can see the new result once these new elements are added.
These new shapes are also made from two different colors (one dark and one bright), but are also transparent on some areas. The goal is to end up with small fruits that are bright on both sides and darker in the middle.
To create a more delicious result, it's also a good idea to create reflection on the subject by adding new white shapes that are also partially transparent. All new shapes must be slightly smaller than the ones created earlier. This grape clipart is definitely getting better and better!
So far the illustration is visually appealing, but we need to add some contrast to make this one even more interesting. In this step, let's add a few dark shapes as seen in the picture below.
This is the final illustration once all steps are completed.
Below you can see all steps needed to illustrate this fruit quickly and easily. More cartoon food can also be found on this site. I hope you had fun working with this cute picture. Some illustrations are harder to create than others, but for this one the challenge is slightly different. No need to create complex shapes, but it's important to add cool digital effects that are realistic and believable. Enjoy and don't forget to practice often. :)
