Drawing a dog is not a difficult task. In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a fun cartoon character using simple shapes filled with plain colors. The design was especially chosen for its simplicity and cuteness!
Dogs are fun animals to draw. The most difficult posture to illustrate is probably a dog in motion, running in a field. For this drawing lesson, I have selected a simple posture (sitting). The final result will look like the image below.
Great! Let's start this tutorial by adding the head using a simple square. As you can see corners are round and the shape is filled with a light brown color. The outline is not black, but rather a darker version of the brown color found inside the illustration.
Next, let's add a few elements inside the head. First, the eyes are drawn with long oval shapes. Eyes are colored in black. Then, you can sketch a large triangle to form the nose. The mouth is made of a long curved line.
For the body, a triangle with one curved line on the right can be used. It's not really a triangle since the top is not pointed (but rather wide and large), but it's the closest shape I could find to describe this part of the body.
Cool! Next you can add the ears using long oval shapes with pointed ends. I usually like to draw ears that are longer and not pointed towards the ground, but I thought it would be nice to create something different. You can also draw the front feet using circles.
The back leg must be drawn with an irregular line. Since we are drawing a side view of the cartoon character, the other back leg won't be visible. Remember that outlines are still colored with a dark brown color.
The tail is also drawn with a long triangle. Make sure the end is pointed and narrow. That's it for this drawing lesson!
If you prefer to see all steps in one single frame, then please use the illustration above as a guideline. I hope you had fun drawing a dog with simple shapes and don't hesitate to try more animals from the same series! Have fun! :)
