Go through a fun experience duplicating this character and learn how to draw a lizard that is original and simple to make. Indeed, if you think that drawing a lizard is a difficult task, think again! Using mostly circles and a few lines, I can show you how to draw this fun animal very easily in just six simple steps. No need to add tons of details to come up with a great illustration: simplicity rules!
As you can see above, the lizard is filled with a bright green color and the stomach is filled with a light yellow color. Although the cartoon character is simple and easy to read, the animal is still very recognizable. Let's see how you could draw this lizard using all steps below.
The first step is simple: Just draw a large oval shape to create the head and make sure that the top is slightly narrower than the bottom. Look at the shape below if you need a reference.
Next, sketch the body using another oval shape. Unlike the first one that was almost circular, this new shape must be long and thin. Once you are finished with this shape, draw a long curved line to illustrate the tail of the lizard.
Great! To create the legs, you need to add four small curved lines like shown below. Don't forget to draw four small oval shapes to complete this step of the drawing tutorial.
The eyes are created from large circular shapes. As you can see on the template below, these shapes are covering a large portion of the head. The pupils are also made from smaller circles.
It's now time to add small details inside the illustration. Inside the pupils, you can draw small oval shapes to create small highlights. The mouth is made from a long curved line and another shape is added on the stomach.
Nice work! This black and white version of the cartoon lizard shows how to draw the character when no colors are involved. This simple illustration is easy to draw and don't hesitate to practice as often as needed!
Now that you know how to draw a lizard made from simple shapes, why not create your own version using simple shapes and lines. This character is fun to illustrate once you are familiar with its anatomy. Have fun and happy drawing!
