In this lesson, you will learn to draw a golf cart using mostly basic shapes and simple digital effects. You will learn how to illustrate a fun version of this vehicle without adding complex patterns and textures. Most shadows and highlights are quite easy to achieved once you understand how to play with transparency. Ready? Let's draw a cool cartoon golf cart like the one displayed below ...
First, let's work on the body and the seat of the object. Since our goal is to create an appealing version of this vehicle, it's important to use several curved lines. The front and the back of the golf cart are made from curved lines, just like the seat. It's also important to create some perspective as shown below.
On top of the cartoon golf cart, we can draw a thin rectangular and a few curved lines to create depth. Four small tubes are created to hold the top. You can also draw the silhouette of the wheels using irregular oval shapes.
Inside the wheels, draw smaller circles to create more depth. You can also create a new rectangle made from round corners in front of the vehicle. More shapes are drawn behind the seat to simulate the 3D feeling we are looking for.
The steering wheel is created using a long rectangle and two oval shapes. Simple patterns are added inside this part of the vehicle. Smaller circles are added inside both visible wheels. Two simple lights made from oval shapes are created in front of the cartoon golf cart. Complete this step with two small rectangles on the bottom of our subject.
Now that our illustration is drawn, let's add some colors to bring this one to life. Instead of adding basic plain colors to the drawing, it can be a good idea to opt for gradients. Doing so will increase the level of realism of the object. All parts are filled with black or gray colors except for the seat. This one can be colored in red.
Gradients are nice to create more depth inside our illustration quickly and easily. If you want to go one step further, then simply draw shadows inside the cartoon golf cart. You can add a shape on the seat, on the front of the vehicle and around the lights. These new shapes can be seen below (with a temporary blue outline).
Please note that all shapes used to create shadows were originally black. Adding transparency so that we can end up with a more realistic result is required. Subtle shadows are perfect to enhance an illustration in just a few minutes.
Shadows are great to give more volume to a drawing, but adding reflections can also contribute to create more contrast inside our subject. While all shadows were filled with a dark black color, highlights must be colored in white. Once again, adding transparency so that we can enjoy a subtle result is a must.
Below, you can see the final version of the vehicle once all steps are completed. Of course, feel free to draw our subject from various angles or try new patterns and colors. Several models already exist and you can certainly try to create your own.
If you prefer to watch all steps required to draw this vehicle all at once, then simply use the image below. Now that you know how to draw a golf cart, it's time to draw more cool illustrations made from a vector application here! Have fun!
