A simple and colorful dragonfly clipart is the subject of this easy step-by-step drawing lesson! This adorable insect is known for having thin transparent wings, a long body and curly antennas.
Some of these insects were probably on earth for as long as 300 million years. Although dragonflies are tiny and cute, they are still ferocious predators. Quick and agile, these little insects are also fragile and even endangered in some cases.
Dragonflies are found everywhere (except in Antarctica, of course!). They can be filled with various colors. Another nice ability of this insect is the fact that they can migrate on very long distances, usually across oceans.
Let me show you how to draw a dragonfly like the one shown below. You will see that duplicating this character is a simple task that anyone can achieve. Ready? Let's draw!
Yes, this first step is without a doubt the easiest one. All you need to do is draw a large rectangle to form the body of the insect. Make sure you are using a thick outline to preserve the cuteness of the character.
Next, draw some eyes using large circular shapes. For the pupils, you can use smaller circles. As you can see, these elements are huge to create an adorable design. You can complete this simple step by adding the mouth using a long curved line. This line must be drawn with pointed ends.
We are almost done (yes, already!). On top of the rectangle, sketch antennas using long curved lines with pointed ends. When you are done, simply draw four little wings using curved lines as shown in the picture below. These wings are located just below the eyes. Nice job! It's time to add colors inside the cartoon character.
The body can be filled with a subtle green/blue color. The pupils are green while the wings are definitely blue. Remember to add colors on the outlines too. Black outlines are nice, but colored ones are even better.
These are all four steps needed to illustrate this adorable cartoon insect. As you can see, it can easily be done by anyone who can sketch a circle or a rectangle. Don't hesitate to create your own version using your own creativity and imagination.
You are also invited to draw a more complex version of a cartoon dragonfly if you want something a little bit more challenging. Have fun working on these images and don't forget to practice often! :)
