You don't need to visit hell to enjoy this cute demon cartoon character! All you need to do is open your vector application, create a nice creature like this one and apply nice shadows and reflections to end up with something as colorful as this illustration!
Of course, this character is a little bit more complex and detailed compared to the other tutorials from this section. If you are unable to reproduce this character on your own, simply create a demon using your style and abilities. You can still add great shadows using guidelines from this drawing lesson.
Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline.
On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.
First, you need to reproduce this cartoon character using dark outlines. Pay attention to all details. Once you are done, you can add plain colors to your illustration. The character already looks more terrifying! :)
Every good vector software comes with a gradient tool. This tool is pretty useful to create simple shadows. Just select the shapes one-by-one and apply a simple gradient fill. Usually, you can use dark colors on the bottom of the shape or in places that are partially hidden. Your demon is looking great, but it can be better!
To enhance each eye, you can create white circles to be placed on the pupil and the eye itself. You can also duplicate the eye, color it using a dark brown color, scale it a little bit larger and place it under each eye. Shadows can also be added on the arms, below the neck and on the tip of the feet. These new shapes are usually darker and slightly transparent to add more depth to the whole character.
We are not done yet! You still need to give more volume to the wings, the head, the horns and the top of the feet. Once again, you need to create new shapes and use a dark color to fill them.
As you can see on the wings of the demon cartoon, using transparency on these new shapes can create a spectacular effect that is very easy to come up with! Nice! :)
