Fortunately, this clown cartoon is funny, cute and ready to be duplicate using a simple application like a vector software! For this tutorial, the template that I have used is quite easy to reproduce. All you need to do is draw the few basic shapes associated with this character.
Once this is done, our goal will be to create nice shadows to give life to this two dimensional illustration. Don't expect to see a full 3D character, but the result will be quite interesting for sure.
Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline.
On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.
Let's start this drawing lesson by sketching the clown. Like I said earlier, this one should be easy to reproduce. Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the character! This one will look great once this tutorial is finished! Next, apply a few basic colors to enhance the illustration. Nothing fancy yet, just basic colors.
It's now time to use the gradient tool to create nice shadows. For the eyes, the circular fill is more appropriated.
Create circles that will be placed below (and behind) the buttons. You can also create a small shadows below the nose. You can use transparency to hide the top part of all new shapes. You can also create circles to represent reflections around the eyes, on the eyes and on the pupils.
Great! ... But it's not over yet! Create a small shadow on the nose and repeat the same process below the neck, on each button and on the shoes.
Finally, you can add larger shadows on the shirt, below the hair, on the head and on the pants. Cool! This clown cartoon looks funnier now ... and more colorful! Great job! :)
