In this hot step-by-step drawing lesson, you will learn how to draw a cartoon volcano filled with smoke and hot lava! This tutorial can easily be done without using basic shapes since every volcano around the world (and on paper) is different. Instead, we will focus on creating dynamic smoke and great lava effect using only a couple of lines and various colors.
First, draw the outline of the volcano itself. Don't hesitate to get creative! A volcano can be large, long, even flat or just filled with lava.
Once you are done, it is time to draw some smoke coming out of the opening of the volcano. The first layer should be the same width as the opening of the volcano. Then, the smoke will become larger and larger has it is moving towards the sky. For the second layer of smoke, a round area will do just fine.
On top of your big area of smoke, you can create many small parts of smoke to enhance the visual effect of your volcano.
Nice! Now it's time to sketch some lava! Don't add too many details since you will have to put more lines on the volcano in the next step.
Ok. Time to put lines on the volcano! :)
Great! Now the colors! Try to add various tones of grey for the smoke. It's a great way to make the whole drawing visually more attracting!
If you feel like it, you can also add some gradient effect on your volcano and smoke. Nice and very well-done!
