In this advance tutorial, I will show you how to draw a nice cartoon soap loaded with shadows, gradient effects and reflections. In this tutorial, I won't spend a lot of time teaching you how to create the shapes necessary to create the object.
Instead, I will focus on the different effects you might want to add to your creation to make it look more realistic or complex. Of course, these special effects can be created by hand, but if you already own a vector software, you will find this tutorial easier to complete!
First, create the shape of your soap. In this case, I played around with perspective to give a cooler look to my object. Of course, you can create something simpler if you wish.
Then, write down the word "Soap" on your object. Using a font that is big, bold and easy to apply color on. If you choose a font that is thin or too fancy, it might be hard to read on the final image.
Next, add some colors on your soap. Notice how the bottom part is darker and how the letters are lighter. I've also chosen a dark tone to create the outline of the object.
Now it's time to add a little gradient effect on both the top and the bottom of the soap. Make sure that you don't apply anything on letters for now.
OK. Now it's time to play with the word "Soap"! Add a bevel effect on your text. Make sure that the shadows on your text are darker on the bottom and lighter on top. To make sure that text will remain visible and easy to read, try to avoid using any other special effect on it.
For this step, I have duplicated the bottom shape and re sized it a little so that it is smaller than the original one. Then, I made this shape darker and I have applied a transparency effect on it to enhance the gradient effect already visible.
In this step, I have added a small white stripe on the bottom left of the cartoon soap to make it look more polished and soft.
Finally, for this step, I have also duplicated the bottom part to create a white reflection on the right part of the soap and I have repeated this technique on top to give a shiny looks to my object! That's it! The perfect soap created in only eight easy steps!
