In this advance drawing lesson, I will show you how to draw a simple cartoon pool filled with water and... complex shapes and shadows! To achieve this tutorial easily, you must have a good knowledge on how to use 3D perspective accurately.
You will see that creating a good 3D object is not just a matter of drawing the right lines at the right place. You also need to play with various tones of the same color to create an image that is a little more realistic and fun to watch.
First, create two oval shapes. Notice how the one in the middle is not 100% centered. Instead, to give a good sense of perspective to my pool, I have placed the circle in the middle a little higher than it would normally be if it was centered.
Next, create two more oval shapes inside the first shape. This time, notice that both shapes (the new ones) are touching each other on the bottom.
Continue working on your drawing by adding the body of your pool. As you can see, the middle part is slightly longer than both the right and left parts.
Now it is time to add the frame set of your pool if you want this one to look solid and genuine. Watch carefully each piece, each line of every object and notice how they are applied to create this great 3D effect.
Next, it's time to apply some colors! This is the coolest part! Your pool is now looking great and just by adding colors, you can see that the 3D parts of your drawing are even more enjoyable once colored!
If you want to, you can add a few basic shadows and reflections on the water to add more realism to your artwork! Congratulations! That's a nice pool that you have there! Good job!
