This drawing lesson will help you learn to draw a cartoon dinosaur! They are gone from the surface of earth since 65 million years ago. Still, dinosaurs are still fascinating and intriguing creatures! We will never know what they really look like or how they lived (unless we can travel through time.
And even if we do, I won't be a volunteer to meet a dinosaur face-to-face!). In this nine steps drawing lessons, I will show you how to draw a Tyrannosaurus, the most feared and vicious dinosaur of all time (at least, that's what we would like to think!).
First, sketch a large rectangle to create the head of your dinosaur. Then, add a small square under the head to illustrate the neck. Notice how the head is leaning towards the ground.
Next, we will work on the body and the tail. For the body, just draw a large oval shape for now. FOr the tail, sketch it using four rectangles. Make sure that these rectangles are getting smaller as you are approaching the end of the tail.
For the back leg, draw a large circle to form the top of the leg. Then, add two rectangles to create the hind leg. For the feet, sketch an oval shape. Make sure that this shape is not quite centered with the leg, but slightly ahead.
Repeat the same steps as above to illustrate the other leg on the opposite side. Then, work on the front arms by adding four rectangles (two for the arm and two for the hand) and two triangles. The arms of the T-rex are short and not very agile.
OK! Let's work on the outline of your cartoon dinosaur! The head is a little complex to create. You need to leave some space (by drawing a little curve) for the nose, the mouth, the eye and the back of the head.
Since this illustration is incomplete, don't hesitate to look at the last image of this tutorial to understand why the outline of the head is drawn this way! For the body, I've deliberately added a 90 degrees angle on the stomach.
Refine the outline of the legs of your creature. The hind legs are important since they are giving an opportunity for the dinosaur to run faster!
Work on the arm of your dinosaur and add another arm on the opposite side of the body. It might look confusing for now, but it will read better with color later on!
Finally, add some details on your T-rex like the eye, the teeth, the mouth and the nose. You can also draw a small stripe along the stomach and the tail.
Just add some colors (once again, no one really knows for sure how dinosaur were colored, so use your imagination!) and you are finished!
You've just created the most dangerous predator earth as ever known (until now!). I hope you had fun drawing this aggressive tutorial of a cartoon dinosaur and don't forget to practice as much as possible!
