Enjoy a nice boy cartoon standing and smiling in this funny drawing tutorial! I will show you how to create an attaching character using only a few basic shapes and the most common tool available in a vector software.
You will see that you don't need to be experimented with a vector software to create a nice illustration fill with great effects that are easy to achieve in such an application. Creating the character itself might be the most challenging part of this drawing lesson.
Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline.
On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.
So let's start with this challenging first step. Just use the drawing tools and basic shapes in your software to create the character. As you can see, this one is rather simple and easy to draw. You can create your own character if you wish. Then, apply a few basic (and plain) colors to get things started.
Great! Now select each shape individually and use the gradient tool to apply a few simple shadows. As you can see, this step alone is a big improvement over the previous one.
OK! It's time to create some more advance effects. Create a few circles to represent reflections on the eyes and the pupils. These circles must be white and slightly transparent on the bottom. Two more shapes can be used to enhance the outside area of the eyes. Make these new shapes dark and slightly transparent on top.
Nice! Now let's create a few shapes to complete the tutorial. First, add a large shadow on the left (and bottom) part of the head. On the shoes, create light shapes to illustrate reflections.
On the hat, add two more dark shapes to create darker areas. Finally, repeat the same process for the shirt and the pants. Good job! Our boy cartoon is nice, clean and almost seems to be made in 3D! Enjoy!
