How to draw cool vector drawings
In this section, I will show you how to draw cool vector drawings using the vector software of your choice. The goal is not to teach you how to use a particular software. All lessons here are simple and are using basic effects that you should find in any good vector software.
As far as I am concerned, I will use Xara Photo and Graphic Designer to create the tutorials. If you are not familiar with any vector applications, I suggest that you take a look at this one. I've been using it for 2 years now (it was also known as Xara Xtreme) and I am very happy with it.
These drawing lessons are for those who are already familiar with some basic drawing techniques (step-by-step drawing, using perspective, creating nice shadows, etc...). It is not a section for beginners.
These vector tutorials are 100% visual. Each step of the drawing process will be illustrated using a picture with three images on it. The first two images on the left contains the elements that are added in the current step. The image on the right is the result of the elements available on the left + the elements that were added previously.
This way, you will be able to visualize exactly what was added in the current step and it will be easier for you to reproduce the drawing using all the techniques and the tips that you are seeing on each step.
Also, each step is designed so that you can see how each layer was added to come up with the result available on the bottom of each page. It doesn't mean that each subject was drawn using the same step-by-step process (the middle layer was probably created first), but it will be easier for you to visualize the whole process.
Using a vector software is easy. Creating simple effects like a gradient fill or transparency is also easy. However, building a nice drawing involving complex shading with shadows and color effects is more challenging.
Hopefully, the visual nature of these drawing lessons will be exactly what you need to improve yourself and understand how you should proceed to create complex vector drawings in no time!
