Spiders are fun to draw since they are usually made of simple shapes like circles and rectangles. This character is no exception. You will see that creating an insect is a nice challenge that can be achieved quite easily.

Step 1

First, create the shape of your cartoon animal. Use black lines and basic shapes to do so. Then, add plain colors like black and grey to enhance the illustration a little bit.

Step 2

Use the gradient tool to add nice effects on most part of the spider cartoon. Since the sun is located above the character, make sure that most parts are darker on the bottom.

Step 3

Add two small shadows on the first and second leg of the animal. You can also create circles on the eye and the pupil to represent reflections. Below the eye, create a large circle and color it in black. The top of this new shape can be slightly transparent.

Step 4

Finally, create a long shadow below each of the legs that are in front of the spider. Two more shadows can be added near the neck and the head. Good job! :)
