Before he was a cute prisoner, our little friend was a ferocious robber cartoon character filled with bad intentions! Fortunately, he wasn't able to steal anything valuable since he is trapped in a virtual world loaded with strong security agents.
If this is your first attempt trying to complete one of these tutorials from this site, then you came to the right place. This character is simple, not filled with too many colors and frankly, quite easy to achieved.
Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline.
On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.
First you must draw the character itself. The design of the robber is very easy to reproduce, even for a beginner. Don't hesitate to use your own style. Once you are finished, you can apply plain colors to your illustration. The result so far is nice, but we still need to add a few effects to make the character more enjoyable.
In this step, our goal is to add a basic shadow on all parts of the cartoon character using the gradient tool. You need to select each shape one-by-one to achieve this. For a better result, make sure that the bottom part of each shape is darker than the top. For the eyes, you can use a circular fill to create something more realistic.
It's now time to add new shapes to create additional shadows. Create a small circle on each pupil and another one for each eye. Color these new shapes in white and apply a little bit of transparency on top of each shape. You can also create darker areas on the shirt, below the head and on the pants. Once again, don't hesitate to add transparency to create a smoother result.
Finally, you can also add a few shadows below the hat (and on top of the head), on the left side of the face and on the feet. Great! As you can see, this robber cartoon was quite easy to create. I hope you had fun and feel free to try another character from the same series. :)
