This policeman cartoon might not be always appreciated, but it's a necessary job that is very important for the security of society! Indeed, police officers are crucial to prevent the world from moving towards chaos. It's also a very difficult job since you need to deal with tough people with bad intentions.
However, it can also be a great job when you deal with nice people. Helping others can be rewarding and there are plenty of opportunities to do so. In this drawing lesson, I will show you how to draw a funny officer with a simple shirt and a nice blue hat. Open your vector software and be ready to create a nice cartoon character! :)
Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline.
On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.
First, you need to draw the character. Use all the basic shapes you need to create the head, the body and the uniform. Of course, it doesn't really matters if the result is not 100% similar to the illustration above. As long as the police officer is easy to recognize, then you are on the right path. Once you are finished, use plain colors to fill in your character.
Every vector application comes with a gradient tool. Use this one to create nice shadows on each single shapes of your illustration. Don't forget that in most cases, you need to add the darker area on the bottom of the shape.
Great! It's now time to add a few shapes to create additional shadows on your policeman cartoon. First, add a white rectangle on the black stripe of the hat to create reflection. Then, add two small white circles on the pupils and two more on the eyes. You can use transparency to hide the top part of each shape.
Move on and create even more new shapes on the hat, the tie, the arms and the feet. For each new shape, use a color that is similar to the shape it will be applied on and use transparency to hide a small part of it.
Finally, create a few more additional shapes to complete the character. These new large shapes should cover the shirt, the hat and the face. Good job! I hope you had fun drawing this cute police officer and don't hesitate to repeat the tutorial as long as needed! :)
