Enjoy a colorful and fun parrot cartoon and learn how to draw this amazing animal using your own vector software! Indeed, this fun cartoon animal is well-known for its ability to talk. Whether a parrot can talk or not is not the subject of this drawing lesson.
Instead, I will show you how to draw a simple red parrot filled with cute shapes and fun shadows. You can also complete this tutorial using markers, but it will be easier to achieve if you already know how to use a vector software.
Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline. On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.
Let's start this drawing lesson by creating the basic shapes of the parrot. Use black lines to create the outlines. Once you are finished, apply some plain colors on the body, the head, the wings and the tail. It might look funny for now, but it doesn't really matters.
Select the gradient tool and apply some effects on all parts of the parrot cartoon. Every little shape must be darker on the bottom and lighter on top. The character is great, but it still needs a few shadows to make the whole thing easier to read.
On the stomach of the cartoon animal, create small feathers that should be dark on the bottom and invisible on top. Use the transparency tool to create a similar effect. On the eye and the pupil, add white circles to represent reflections. You can also create a grey patch and place it below the eye.
It's now time to add shadows on the beak, the head, the neck and the feet. These shadows must be subtle and colored in grey. A small part of each shadow should also be transparent.
Complete your illustration by adding large shadows near the beak, the neck, the right wing and on the branch. Nice! Your parrot cartoon is now finished! Feel free to experiment with colors. Parrots can be colored using many patterns and it is up to you to do some test to find the style you enjoy the most!
