So you like drawing cartoons! And you would like to take some painting lessons too?
Great! If you already know how to draw, then you will probably have no trouble learning how to paint... right?
Not exactly! Knowing how to paint is not as easy to learn as drawing. It does involve some sketching for sure, but it's a little more than that!
You need to understand how to play with light, how to add some textures and give some life to your creations.
Cartoons are forgiving in a sense that you don't really need to draw exactly what you see. You can cheat a little (or a lot!). There is no right or wrong lines, colors or shapes. It's really up to you!
However, if you wish to paint in a realistic fashion, this might be more problematic if you stick with your "cartoonish" vision! You need to study your subject, understand it!
But don't worry! You will find plenty of help on the net to help you learn how to paint better. If you wish to improve your artistic talent, I strongly recommend that you take a look at Delmus Phelps's website called "Easy oil painting techniques".
With some easy to follow exercises and tips, this website is nicely illustrated and very easy to understand for anyone serious about learning some painting techniques!
Enjoy and have fun!
