This nurse cartoon is cute, easy to draw and ready for action! No doubt that this job is not an easy one. A nurse must deal with emergency situations and must provide good care in a short period of time. Qualities like patience, perseverance and speed are required!
In this drawing lesson, I will show you how to draw this cute character using simple shapes and great tones of colors. My goal is to create a 2D character that looks a little bit like a 3D one. To achieved that, we need to use a few simple tools and a small portion of creativity! :)
Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline.
On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.
Great! Let's move on with the first step! Open your vector application and use simple shapes and black outlines to create the character. You can keep all shapes white for now. If you prefer, you can also move on to the second step that consists of applying plain colors on all parts of the cartoon character.
As you can see, the arms, skirt and shirt are not colored with the same tone of gray, but it's fine for now.
OK, now select each shape individually and use the gradient tool to apply shadows (using two different tones of the same color). I usually select the linear fill. For the eyes, you can proceed with a circular fill.
Nice! It's now time to add a few additional shapes that will be used to represent targeted shadows and reflections. For the eyes, two small (white) circles are placed on top (and a little bit on the right). Don't hesitate to apply a little bit of transparency to hide the top part of the shape. In this step, I also added a few circles on the pupils and a small shadow below the head.
Once again, you can create new shapes to create darker areas on the head and on the face of your nurse cartoon. As always, use transparency to hide the top part and choose a color that is similar, but darker than the one available below your new shape.
Complete this tutorial with new shadows on the head, near the hair, on the top of the arms and on the skirt. Great! I think that we have a new (and cute) cartoon nurse ready to work! :)
