How to Make Your own Comic Books

This article will give you some tips on how to make your own comic books using simple features you can find on the net. With the explosion of websites offering POD services (print-on-demand), anyone is now able to become her or his own publisher.

If you have the chance (or the talent to build) a high traffic website, then you are already one small step away from becoming a successful comic strip artist.

Of course, you still need to create an interesting and original comic strip in order to have success. But that's not the subject of this article!

Please note that you will find on the bottom some links to help you start your adventure on the right foot!

Let's see what are the different options you might have when trying to find a way to distribute your creation!

1. E-books

E-books are the cheapest and simplest way to create and sell your comic strips. They don't require handling or shipping hard goods and you don't need to manage an inventory.

Most of the time, your buyers will have instant access to your products. They can also be printed by the readers if they wish to keep a paper version of the book (but it might be expensive!).

The downside is that if your readers don't wish to print the document, they won't be able to read it anywhere except in front of the computer.

You can make your own comic books in a PDF format. This is a very secure extension and viruses cannot be transmitted through a PDF. That's why it's such a popular and safe alternative.

Overall, it's a nice and simple way for a publisher to create a document with some minor issues for the reader.

If you wish to sell your e-book, you can always use some very affordable e-commerce solutions that will handle the payment on your behalf and offer your products to your customers through a secure download link.

2. POD that can handle your customer's needs

Some POD services can handle the payment process and ship the items to your customers. All you have to do is create the files for your e-books and upload them on the servers of the website offering these services.

What's nice about this method when you make your own comic books is that your clients will have a quality book delivered at home in a reasonable period of time. Since it's not digital, they will be able to carry their book everywhere.

And for the comic book artist, no inventory to manage since these books are only produced and shipped when a client is ordering it. It's really a win-win situation for both parties.

For the publisher, the biggest downside might be the price. Usually, the book will cost around $5 to $10 dollars to create. So expect your profit margin to be lower than an e-book for example.

3. POD that won't handle your customer's need

Some POD services can print large amount of products for a very competitive price. But since they don't handle payment process for your clients and won't ship your items to them, you'll have to order a big quantity of products to be shipped directly to your home.

And from there, you will have to handle all credit cards transactions and ship the items to your customers yourself. Not a very efficient way to make some easy money.

Still, some publishers are using (and preferring) this method simply because they have control over the quality of their products. But expect your profit to get slimmer again if you select this method to distribute your comic books to your readers.
