Of all characters found in this series, this lion clipart is probably one of the most complex illustration to draw. However, it doesn't mean that this animal is difficult to illustrate. It simply means that this lion is slightly tougher to create while still being an easy tutorial to achieved for young kids and beginners.
Lions are fascinating animals. They are huge, strong, fast and very agile. In the wild, a lion can live up to 15 years. The male has a mane and can run very quickly on short distances. Lions are mostly found in Africa.
Below you can see the final version of this animal once all shapes are drawn and colors are added. Except for the mane, all elements of this illustration consist of basic shapes and lines. Are you ready to draw? Cool! Let's proceed with the first step now! :)
First, let's draw the body using a large rectangle. On top of this rectangle, sketch the mane using mostly small triangles made from curved lines. Remember to create an open area inside the mane to include the face of the animal. Finally, you can draw two small ears on top of the mane. Patches made from circular lines are also added inside the ears.
Inside the mane, sketch two large circular shapes to represent the eyes. Inside the eyes, draw smaller circles to form the pupils. Below the eyes, a small oval shape can be added to create the nose. The mouth is made from a simple curved line. Finally, a large patch can be drawn around the mouth of the character.
On the bottom of the body, sketch small circles to form the feet of the lion. The arms are done using small broken lines. Another patch can be drawn on the stomach of the lion clipart. Finally, complete this step by adding a small tail behind the character as shown in the illustration below.
Nice! Let's add some colors now! The head and body of the animal are filled with a bright orange color. Patches inside the ears, around the mouth and on the stomach are slightly brighter. On the other hand, the mane, the feet and the tail are much darker. Pupils are blue while the eyes can be filled with a simple white color.
These are all four steps needed to illustrate this cartoon lion. Once you are able to draw a nice-looking mane, creating the rest of the animal should be relatively easy. You can also try this second lion made from basic shapes too. It's a nice addition if you want to try a different version made from simple elements. Enjoy! :)
