how-to-draw-a-pencil-step-1 Before learning how to draw a cartoon pencil, please take a look at the picture located on your left. You can see two kinds of pencils: Your ordinary pencil and a ballpoint pen.

The first one has an eraser on top. The second one is made of a push-button (1), a clip (6) and a point (4).

Drawing a pencil is rather easy since they are mostly made of three parts: the point, the barrel and the cap (or top).

how-to-draw-a-pencil-step-2 The shapes of those pencils are also easy to figure out.

Triangles for the point, a long rectangle for the barrel (or the body) and a small rectangle for the top.

Notice how the shape of the ballpoint pen's barrel is somehow irregular.

On the other hand, your average pencil is straight and firm.

For this example, let's draw a simple short pencil. First draw a rectangle for the body. Then, draw another rectangle for the small part that hold the eraser. Continue by adding a triangle for the point.

You can add some details like the lines on the body of the pencil. You can finish your work by adding some colors.

It's now up to you to continue your experimentation. You can draw a funny pencil with eyes (1)(3) or a more realistic one (5).

Drawing a pencil is something you should be able to accomplish easily if you pratice a little bit. This is a good example to start with if this is your first drawing tutorial!
