This cute devil cartoon won't hurt anyone. Just be good and you'll be alright! Obviously, this character is very present in religions, horror movies and in most cultures of the world. The devil is often depicted as a vicious entity colored in red with horns on the head and a long pointed tail.
In this simple drawing lesson, I will show you how to create a cute devil with nice shadows and a funny face. It's true that this character is similar to the demon cartoon available in the same category, but the devil is easier to create and color.
Important note: For each step available below, the first image represents the operation you must perform for this particular step. All changes are surrounded by a red outline.
On the second image, you will have the opportunity to see the result of this particular step.
Start this tutorial by sketching the character using your digital pencil. The devil is mostly made of basic shapes like circle (for the head and eyes), rectangles (for the arms and legs) and triangles (for the horns and ears). Once you are finished, apply plain colors on all parts of the character.
Now the real fun begins! Use the gradient tool to create cool shadows on all parts of the devil. As you can see, most of the shapes are darker on the bottom and lighter on top. There are a few exceptions like the arms and the ears.
Create a few circles to create reflections on the eyes and the pupils. These circles must be cut on top since the eyes of the character are not 100% round. You can also add shapes on the horns, the feet, below the neck and below the right hand of the character.
These new shapes are used to create additional shadows. If you can use transparency on top of these new shapes, then the effect will be even more effective.
Create another batch of new shapes to illustrate shadows on the head, the arms and the red part of the feet. Once again, if you can make these shape slightly transparent on top, the effect will be even more enjoyable. Good job! You should have a nice devil cartoon by now... one that is gentle and fun to work with! :)
