Drawing cartoon superheros: some fun facts before starting sketching!
- The first superhero might just be Mandrake the Magician. He started in 1934, a couple of years before Superman.
- Batman is one of the rare superheros to be powerless.
- The dark knight (batman) is already considered the best superhero movie ever.
With the current trend of superhero movies, drawing your own superhero can be quite interesting.
Whether they wear a cape (5) or not, have cool powers or a nice logo (2), there is no specific guidelines to
follow when designing your character!
The superman look is a classic, but it's not a must. Developing never seen before powers or abilities for your hero is a great challenge that's really worthed.
Looking at the shape of our character, we can see mostly circles and two rectangles.
The chest and the legs are powerful while the waist is rather tiny.
His arms don't look really intimidating but we assume that this guy still gets the job done!
Vintage superheroes were usually big and strong. So, do you know how to draw superheroes with big muscles and a cool attitude? First, draw a circle for the head and a rectangle for the chest.
Then, sketch several circles to form the arms. Be sure to keep proportions accurate between the forearms and the arms. Draw some lines on the chest and erase your basic shapes to draw a more credible character!
It's up to you to decide if you want a more realistic superhero (4)(5) or some cartoon heroes (6)(1) with a funny look. Don't forget to elaborate your superhero's personality before creating his physical appearance.
Your character will have more credibility and your readers shall identify themselves with your superhero more easily!
