Create a fun cartoon manatee using simple tips and a vector application! This fun aquatic creatures can weigh up to 600 kg and measure up to 12 feet long. Both flippers are long and strong. These solitary animals are able to swim at 4 mph and can spend up to half the day sleeping. They are mainly found in South America and Africa. Besides human, these adorable animals don't have a natural predator and are able to live for a long period of time. Let's try to draw a fun manatee using this simple tutorial.
First, draw the manatee using simple curved lines with pointed ends. The eyes and the pupils are done using circular shapes and the nose is represented by two small lines. Make sure that this animal is huge, fat and round.
When you are finished drawing this aquatic animal, you can draw additional shapes behind the outlines. These new shapes can be filled with plain colors. The body of the manatee can be colored in grey and the pupils are filled in black. The bottom of the mouth, the flipper on the back and the top of the head are filled with a darker grey color.
Next, you can draw additional shapes to create a few shadows on the body of the cartoon animal. You can draw these new elements in areas that are not affected by the light source. Make sure these new shapes are darker and slightly transparent.
This is the manatee once all new shadows are added. As you can see, these new elements are adding more depth and volume to this cartoon illustration.
Once last step is required to create even more volume on the manatee. One again, draw new shapes on the character as shown below. However, these new shapes must be colored in white and can also be transparent (mostly on the bottom of these new shapes).
Good work! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial on how to draw a cartoon manatee using only five basic steps and a vector application. Of course, this character can be drawn manually. The result can be different and also very interesting to look at. Have fun and feel free to try more tutorials from the same series. :)
