This lesson will help you learn to draw a cartoon crab! This cute sea creature is well-known for walking from left to right (as oppose to moving forward, like we do!).

They are also very appreciate from many seafood lovers from around the world. But don't mess with these animals in the wild life! They are quite aggressive and can fight for about anything, like finding a mate or defending a good spot to sleep in! So let's try to draw a cute crab in this new drawing lesson!


How to draw a cartoon crab 1

First, sketch a nice square to form the body of your crab. Once you are done, add two oval shapes to create the eyes. Notice that they are both incline towards each other. Also, the one on the left is a little smaller. This is an easy trick to use in order to add some personality to your characters!

Next, you will add some basic shapes to illustrate the chelipeds of your crab. Don't be intimidated by the next steps! You will see many shapes to reproduce. Just take your time and study each step carefully! For this part of the lesson, start by adding a small rectangle to form the base of the cheliped.

Next, add two more rectangles by making sure that the last one is the bigger one. Finally, create the two fingers by adding a rectangle and a triangle for the big one and only a small triangle for the small one.

Now the walking legs. You need to draw eight of them, four on each side. Repeat the following recipe for all legs. Just sketch two rectangles to create the leg itself and then add a small triangle on top to complete this body part.

Let's refine our crab to make it look more adorable! Work on the outline of the chelipeds like shown above. All shapes should be smooth and clean.

Next, do the same for all eight legs.

Finally, work on the body of your sea friend. The body of my cartoon crab was created with six sides. Notice that lines around the body are bent towards the inside. You can also add the pupils and the mouth of your crab. Just draw a big and nice smile! It will look better that way!

Just add some orange everywhere and you are done! A nice crab drawn in seven easy steps. Creating this lovely sea creature is a pretty good challenge for a beginner. Just take your time and keep it simple. I'm sure you will be able to create a nice looking crab easily if you follow this tutorial carefully and take the time to practice very often! Have fun!
